Possession – Monday Mixtape

I always think about this song, Atom and His Package’s¹ “Possession (not the one by Danzig)”, whenever I am packing, but never more than this time. As I wrote back in March, I’m leaving Texas. I hope it is for the good (not necessarily *for good*). I’ve moved a lot before. Among my friends, my moves are somewhat legendary in their number. But this is a big one, where there is no coming back for little things I may have forgotten. New house,² new state. So I’m all packed up, and stuff is on the move.

Stacks of filled moving boxes

Lewis! Darren! This is what you get when you sh*t is piled high and I don’t have what I need yet!

When all your possessions are in boxes, there’s still refuge in corners….

PS: A hearty “Screw you” to the people in charge of the WalMart boxes, who change the dimensions slightly every year or year and a half. These 11-inch wide boxes are no longer wide enough for an LP.

¹ I know he regretted giving his one-man band this name, but I still love it. You may know his more for his most famous track, “Punk Rock Academy.”

² And once you get to a space, well, there is always modifications to make the place your own. While you’re doing that, give a listen to the Atom & His Package’s “I am Downright Amazed at What I can Destroy with just a Hammer.” Even if you can only get snacks, at least you’re doing what you can.
